    Hygglig Mammoth Monday

    • Brush: Chisel and Hound Intrepid with 26 mm Zenith boar knot at 53 mm loft
    • Razor: Wade & Butcher The Celebrated Hollow Ground (5/8", new horn scales)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth Hygge
    • Aftershave: Noble Otter Barrbarr
    • Fragrance: Declaration Grooming Bangarang

Trying to take Hygge into a playful direction by pairing (tripleting?) it up with Barrbarr and Bangarang, and it kinda works. I’m enjoying the Wade & Butcher in its pretty new scales.

Hey I also used Hygge today! Hygge is the only Mammoth I own, and while I do like the scent but I wouldn’t say I love it. I do love the Mammoth base though and plan to buy more soon. I just need to kill a tub first as I have limited space in my bathroom.

I’m the same. I like Hygge and I enjoy using it, but it’s not a scent that wowed me.

My other HoM scents are Mindigo, Almond Leather, and Shire. Mindigo is one of those scents that I enjoy, but every once in a while it just clicks and I love it. But not every time. AL and Shire are among my absolute favourites.

Shire sounds like one that I would love. That will probably be the next HoM that I buy.

    M3: Cerberus

    • Brush: Highlander Brushes Jade 26mm Cashmere Knot
    • Razor: Karve Shaving Co. Overlander
    • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Green) [5]
    • Lather: Declaration Grooming/House of Mammoth - Cerberus - Soap
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter/House of Mammoth - Cerberus - Aftershave
    • Fragrance: Declaration Grooming/House of Mammoth - Cerberus - Eau de Parfum

Yep, Cerberus again for #mammothmilksteakmonday. I had noticed the scent remnants of Cerberus in another brush recently, so using the trifecta this morning seemed almost necessary.

    Rating: 4.5/5

      Cerberus++;

Brilliant stuff! After one use of the soap and AS I bought the EdP. I’m looking forward to using it a lot in December.

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
    • Razor: Gillette Tech (Z-4)
    • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (German) (4)
    • Lather: Siliski Soaps - Frankincense and Myrrh - Soap
    • Post Shave: Chicago Grooming Co. - Frankie & Myrna - Aftershave

I was moving some new samples into the Sample Box™ and ran out of room. This Siliski sample is rather large, so it drew the short straw. The scent isn’t all that special, but the soap base is decent. It started off quite fluffy, but settled down after adding a bunch of water. It’s good and slick once you work at it for a bit, but I prefer other soap bases.

This razor/blade combo is in my notes as being one of my favorites. The first 3 shaves were good in this particular series of shaves, but today the blade seemed to come alive. Some people don’t like blades that “open up” with time, but I don’t mind it. I know I’ll probably get another 4 great shaves out of it before it goes to being just “good” until it dies.

The power went out last night because of a tree falling on the lines nearby. Only about 5 houses are affected near us. The power company is sitting there waiting for another company to come, because apparently they don’t own the utility poles anymore. The company who owns the poles is an Internet/Cable provider, and they must have just recently bought all of the poles because they ran fiber to our neighborhood within the past couple of months. We can’t order fiber internet yet, but I guess it’s coming. That would make this power outage almost worth it.

We have a whole house generator because this type of thing is common out in the sticks where we live, so we’re comfortable with heat, running water, etc. If it goes on for more than a day we’ll have to ration the propane, but for now we’re living life in luxury.

      Cables on utility poles --;

Fingers crossed for the propane reserves to outlast the outage

They installed a new pole and got everything hooked up yesterday. The power was only out for about 16 hours. Not bad!

    Ozark Stories

    • Brush: Chisel and Hound Intrepid with 26 mm Zenith boar knot at 53 mm loft
    • Razor: Wade & Butcher The Celebrated Hollow Ground (5/8", new horn scales)
    • Lather: Australian Private Reserve Raconteur
    • Aftershave: Z-slur unscented
    • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co Ozark Mountain

The Raconteur-Ozark Mountain combo is interesting (Credit: @walden@sub.wetshaving.social ). OM feels surprisingly cool in comparison to the intense warmth of Raconteur. This shave made me itch for an HSSC Eclipse shave. I’ll have to add one of those to my rotation soon.

A scent called Dragonsbeard. How could I pass that up? Well, clearly, I could not. These are the notes: Authentic Agarwood Oil and Oud Resin with essential oils of East Indian Sandalwood, Amber, Tonka Bean Butter, Madagascar Vanilla Bean Infusion Oil, and White Rose Absolute. Inviting, right?

And the post-shave feel of the Ethos F-Base (F for “firm”, I think) is different from the other soaps I use. I really like it. Naturally, it called for a talc bomb to properly finish this shave.

You can’t go wrong with SSL. It is great, even for an evening shave.

This is only the second time I have used the HC&S razor. It is made in Maryland near where I live and I bought it used with the idea of doing all Maryland shaves; Brad Sears brushes and Mystic Water soaps are in Maryland also. There are enough themes going around that I never really got going on the MD one, but this razor is very nice. It feels on the aggressive side similar to the Blackbird but it gives me enough control over angle that the shave was quite comfortable. And the handle texture is fantastic. This is a difficult razor to drop.
