- Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Le Grand Chypre
The 11-year old has been at Space Camp this week. Graduation/check-out is tomorrow, which means I get to spend today traveling up there to pick her up. And since my company has declared Monday an impromptu holiday, that means I woke up this morning on day 1 of a 6 day weekend. Nice.
Decided I wanted to smell extra fancy today, so I broke out Le Grand Chypre for my head shave. I also decided I didn’t want to have to think too hard about my shave, so I reached for my post-war Tech. Whipped up a nice lather and shaved my dome largely on autopilot.
This was my first experience with a 7am Hi Platinum Durablade. I picked them up from Maggard’s a while back just for shiggles. Not a bad blade on the first shave. But I don’t know if any blade has ever really disappointed me in the post-war Tech (aside from a Shark). I’ll give it a try in another razor later in the weekend.

- Razor: Karve CB SB D
- Blade: Treet Platinum
- Lather: Wholly Kaw - Nightcap - Soap

Great shave. The solid bar d plate gives a really nice shave. Everything seems glitchy with the extra sotd posts and such.I guess the AI is going crazy.

- Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Sharp Dressed Man Soap
- Brush: Yaqi Cashmere Synthetic Shaving Brush, Dandelion Green Handle, 24mm
- Razor: Gillette Slim Adjustable H3
- Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (2)
- Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Sharp Dressed Man Balm
I haven’t been using this razor much lately, and I think this is the first time using this blade with it. First shave didn’t feel great so today I used it on a lower setting for the 2nd pass (I only do 2 passes). That was better but still not great.

- Brush: Razorock Beehive Synthetic 28mm
- Razor: Merkur 33c
- Blade: Gillette Platinum
- Lather: Barrister and Mann – The Full Measure of Man
- Post Shave: Cetaphil Moisturizer
- Lather: Proraso Green Soap
- Brush: AP Shave Co G5C 24mm
- Razor: Gillette Tech
- Blade: Gillette Wilkinson Sword (India) (4)
Same hardware combo which worked well yesterday, and unsurprisingly it was good again today. Proraso Green of course is well known so not much to say about that other than that I like it and its cooling property was nice today with it being warm outside.

- Brush: Wild West Brushworks Deep Pearl 26mm Sweet Spot Badger
- Razor: Koraat 6/8" Full Hollow (Straight Shave 263)
- Lather: Wholly Kaw - Hiatus - Soap
- Post Shave: Thayers - Lemon - Toner
- Post Shave: Wholly Kaw - Hiatus - Aftershave
2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
The Hiatus set arrived a couple of days ago. I’m a fan of Wholly Kaw products in general, and really enjoy the Crème Fraîche base. This scent was just released in that base and was described as a sophisticated Piña Colada fragrance that is not sugary.
I’d say the scent is in the same category as Stirling’s Boat Drinks and A&E’s SoCal Hipster. It’s closest to SoCal Hipster, but there’s more rum and less fruit. This is especially noticeable in the splash. Although this is a gourmand scent by definition, the dry-down of the rum in the splash deepens the scent and only leaves hints of the fruity notes. This is a winner for me, but there’s very few artisan scents that I can’t find something good to say about.

Shave #2 of a side-by-side comparison between the Gen 1 & Gen 2 Guerillas. Yesterday I used Gen 1 on the right side of my face, and Gen 2 on the left. Today I switched sides to take into account technique.
The results were similar.
Switching sides didn’t change anything, and the Gen 1 proved again to be more efficient, especially on the first pass.
Yesterday’s shave was too close to call a winner. Today’s final shave results were more conclusive, and the Gen 1 gave a closer shave, while still feeling slightly smoother.
The Gen 2 has a slightly smaller gap (.54 vs. .69), and if I remember correctly, more blade exposure. It also makes loading the blade easier compared to the 1st generation. With the Gen 2 feeling ever-so-slightly more aggressive, it came as a surprise to me that the Gen 1 shaves slightly better.
Both are mild-medium razors, and I’d be happy with either one as a daily shaver. With a different blade, more buffing, better technique, etc., I’m sure either razor would provide decent shaves to anyone. I have other razors that I like better, and plenty of razors that I don’t like as much.
