    Killing Varen: Operation Inferno

    • Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Zenith Boar Brush 31mm × 50mm
    • Razor: Koraat Sparschweinchen (7/8", “Sheffield-style” full hollow, carbon steel)
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. Varen
    • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co. Varen
    • Fragrance: Chatillon Lux Weinstrasse
    • Talc: Pinaud Clubman Finest Powder

Yesterday, I had broken up the ring of death to cover the bottom of the tub, and today’s load already broke through it again. This thing is racing to its conclusion.

I added a talc step to the routine and thoroughly enjoyed it. I should just do it by default, it’s always a plus.

The big Koraat is fun. The blade is great, but unlike most straight razors, the tang, the spine and the tail have been left raw. Love it.

Same. I think it adds some awesome character

I agree. I think the Piggy Bank razors are real gems.

Maybe, but I am not a fan of this sort of character – I like the shiny and polished stuff (probably because contrary to other humans, who descend from apes, I descend from magpies).

There’s no doubt. I am really surprised not to see more of these Sparschweinchen around. Ulrik does terrific work.

I feel that way too, and feel a little vain to admit it, but, there it is.

I suspect the marketing as a budget razor might not have been the best.

You’re probably right, but, Koraat quality steel and machining at a budget price? What’s not to love?

I was seriously thinking of purchasing a Piggy Bank but happened upon my 7/8 near wedge on the 'zaar around that time.

And you bought that mammoth 14 shortly thereafter, right?

I purchased the 6/8 full hollow with the light blue acrylic next, then the 14-2.0 with the mammoth ivory. I like to spend money as if I have it :)

    • Brush: AP Shave Co. - 24mm Synbad Fan
    • Razor: Ever-Ready Streamline Jewel Gen 2
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (2)
    • Lather: Central Texas Soaps - Cherry Pipe - Soap
    • Post Shave: Old Spice - Original - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm
    • Fragrance: Brut - EdT

I seem to remember the Streamline (ok sorry, “Ambassador”) that I borrowed from EldrormR being milder than this one. I still like the way this one shaves, but it feels similar to my other GEM razors aside from the Bullet Tip which is mild.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

A very close, very comfortable shave from this Évidé Sonnant. Perhaps the best edge that I’ve had on this razor. And, it was a test shave. Here’s the honing video.

MdC Fougère and Nuàvia Verde really compliment each other. A pretty terrific fougère Friday, I’d say.

    Have a great weekend!

Friday, April 12, 2024: Le vendredi du cerf

It was a beautiful day, and in the evening, I caught the sweet scent of hydrocarbures. Obviously, this needed to be extended. I took out the Stag – which I had unfortunately bought in the tallow version. It lathers not very well (at least with my hard water here), although it’s slick enough. The aftershave is excellent, though.

The shave itself was good, and my face feels hydrated and relaxed.

    Have a good night!
