Sunday, May 12, 2024: Sunny Day

A very nice shave on a sunny day. Time to take out the summer scents – and there’s nothing better than Le Grand Chypre. The combination with Bon Monsieur is maybe not the best pairing, but each of them is great in their own way.

    Have a good day!

and there’s nothing better than Le Grand Chypre

Yeah, I agree with that. Wonderful fresh scent but with some depth to it.

    • Brush: Thäter Faux Ivory 29mm 2-band Silvertip
    • Razor: Tatara Muramasa (setting: 4)
    • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge (Yellow) (5)
    • Lather: WestMan Shaving - Nirvana - Soap
    • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner
    • Aftershave: WestMan Shaving - Nirvana - Aftershave Balm

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Nirvana is a very well-blended scent headlined by fig and sandalwood. Today, I was really getting the contribution of those two notes to the fragrance. Wonderful! And the soap base is extraordinary. WestMan soaps are worth having, IMHO. I need to get more.

I love what Tatara razors did with the design of the Muramasa. Settings 1 and 2 are negative and neutral exposure, respectively, as I recall. Those settings will work well for people who prefer to use a lot of pressure. I’ve been able to get great shaves from settings 3, 4, and 5, though. Today’s shave was no exception.

    • Brush: Zenith B8 (XL aluminium handle, 28 mm × 57 mm boar)
    • Razor: Puma 88 (5/8", round tip, carbon steel, hollow ground)
    • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Sea ICE Lime
    • Aftershave: Spearhead Shaving Company - Seaforth! Sea Spice Lime

This scent reminds me so much of summer. Two AAs with SIL and SSL will do that

      Puma 88

I don’t remember this one either! If it’s new, I think you’re on a roll! I have an 89 incoming.

        Well spotted!

Yes, I’ve cleaned and honed three recent additions to the den 10 or so days ago, just before first Djunior and then I got sick. I wanted to make a little Mail Call/Maintenance post but haven’t made the time for it yet.

        Here’s a sneak peak

Pretty good condition! It’s a German hollow 5/8", which is to say a great shaver, but not big or flashy enough to be fancy.

    • Razor: Wolfman Guerilla (Gen 1)
    • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (German) (4)
    • Lather: London Razors/Summer Break Soaps - Mountain Laurel - Soap
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Hamami - Aftershave

What a great soap base and a great little brush. Though small, it holds plenty of lather.
