    SSL

    Again and again and again.

Given I’ve not mentioned the set up here I probably should. I’m pretty much exclusively using my red zenith 27mm boat. It’s got a nice hot loft so has that floppiness that I like. Not too much but not too little (my only heerlf with the moar is the splay). Still it’s not as good as the SOC was when it died. I’m hoping it will get there.

Razor is the NEW. I like the vintage open combs as I shave every few days and nowt beats them. I tend to rotate through them swapping when the blade feels ready to toss.

Blaze is a random selection. Don’t know ehat

Great photo! The pattern of the tub reflecting perfectly in the R41 and matching nicely with its knurling is just superb composition 👌🏻

I can’t say enough good things about AG 1889. I used it all of August. It’s really worth getting a decant of Guerlain Jicky if you can. The soap and splash lean towards the fragrance, but the real thing lets you know why it has been around so long.

I need to look for a decant of Jicky, but until then, I agree that AG 1889 is amazing

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal, now with 28 mm Gelousy knot
    • Razor: Dovo 41 Inox
    • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

    Tough morning today, nursing a hangover and getting ready for the commute to work. Even though nice, a shave doesn’t help take the edge off. I’m annoyed that I can’t have a social life and wake up rested and refreshed the next morning anymore. Getting old --;

I like this little spartan Dovo. No frills, 5/8", round point. Stainless steel blade and scales. Utilitarian. I reminds be of the US army medical Weck Sextoblade, which I also enjoy. It’s a pity that Dovo has discontinued these and instead produces decorated pretend-fancy razors like the Runde Sache.

nursing a hangover and getting ready for the commute to work

Ah, that sucks a lot. Suffering through a day of work with a massive hangover is no joke… unfortunately I know this too well.

      Getting old –

Hey, looking at the bright side: getting old beats the alternative of dying too young.
But I catch your drift. A few people always told me that it’ll gradually turn worse once you hit 30, and damn - some days they were damn right. 😮‍💨

        beats the alternative

        Definitely!

        once you hit 30

        I don’t know. I think I felt young until 40. Now, not so much😅

          I think I felt young until 40.

I guess it’s more the creeping realisation that you’re now perceived as “old” by younger folks (teens, young adults) and that you’re noticing signs of aging that set in at 30. Also, crippling back and neck pain but that could just be related to my field of work 🤔

Yeah, that’s right. In my field of work at the time, at age 30, you just about finished you PhD and were considered to be at the very beginning of your career. That helped keeping up the illusion of youth 😅

Now that I have experienced professionals in my team that are 10 years younger than me, the perception changes.

Younger colleagues are definitely a reality check, but at least they help to keep in touch with young generations and don’t become like the grumpy old folks only nagging about them. It’s also a definite telltale sign that I’m getting older when songs/movies/tv shows from my youth are only mentioned in the context of “cult classics”, “forgotten gems” or “good old times”…

This was my first ever DE razor. I did some adjustments on it to get the gaps to match whatever chart I found online, make sure the safety bars were straight, etc. I have a bit of sweat equity in this one, haha.

I used it exclusively for a while, and did my initial “blade rotation” with it, which is where I discovered my fondness for Bolzano.

Sure enough, 4 years later, Bolzano is an excellent match for this razor.

Tomorrow will be yet another tub kill. Gotta love it.
