      • Yup, first time!

I am a rare wet shaver in that I have a full large beard. I only wet shave once or twice a month to clean up the edges of my beard and the hairs on my neck.

I went deep down the rabbit hole of wet shaving when I got a job that did not allow any facial hair other than a trimmed mustache. Ironically the company policy on both facial hair and tattoos changed less than six months after I had already shaved my beard completely off.

Bonus I guess is that I am now kitted up with enough supplies to last me a lifetime.

Welcome to the club! Being able to hand down soaps 2 generations is a frequent issue here 😁

Straightember is over, and it’s time to use a DE. It really is amazing how effortless shaving with a DE is, especially around the chin, and how easy it is to get BBS. Though I remember at the beginning that I was doubting whether I would ever not nick me when shaving around the chin.

    Have a good day!

    • Razor: Dovo Facharbeit 6/8" Full Hollow Square Point (Straight Shave 343)
    • Lather: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary - Soap (66)
    • Post Shave: Saponificio Varesino - 70th Anniversary - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

@djundjila asked where the Facharbeit has been. Well, here it is. I did an edge refresh on it last night using synthetic stones and received, by far, the best shave I’ve had with this razor. 2-pass BBS, smooth, and very comfortable. A 3-pass shave would have been ultra-enjoyable, but I did not have the time.

As I have been doing lately, I pushed this edge’s sharpness as far as I could and used post-hone stropping to correct any micro-alignment issues and to add a little convexity to the edge geometry. I was convinced that I went too far. Here is what the edge looked like after one shave and this result is far better than what I was expecting.

So, while it is October 1, the first day of TabOKtober for some of you, it is Settantisemo Straightember 31 for me. Four more shaves on this tub. I ought to be excited to move on, and I need to move on, but I’ll be a little sad to see this end.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

Good to see the Facharbeit again! I should have followed your Straightember philosophy of refreshing a bunch of razor edges and use them, I might have made more happy discoveries like the Bismarck 😀

Yes! Taking what I thought were great edges and pushing them during a refresh has been very instructive. I had no idea I would learn so much.

It’s a fragrance that hits way above its price point IMO. The metallic floral notes blend really well with the other woody, aromatic notes.

That’s what I keep thinking. Tabac 's sometimes cringy marketing and low prices don’t do it favours. Both Gravity and Fire Power are great IMO

    Oh It’s Back

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
    • Razor: Dovo Bismarck 2 (7/8″, full hollow, carbon steel)
    • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
    • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

TabOKtoberfest is back, and it started it with a surprisingly delightful shave. The Bismarck was in my “bad buy” category because it wouldn’t take a good edge, but @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social has been raving about his Bismarck shaves recently, even comparing it to the Fili 14, so I had to give mine another chance (Happy September 31, BTW, @gcgallant 😉 ). I made sure my bevel was set correctly with the Edding/Sharpie test (it was, BTW) and then honed it on my finishing stone (Naniwa 10k) using only trailing edge strokes until it tree-topped arm hair. That went very quickly, indicating that the previous edge was very close to good already. I smoothed it all out in a good 50 laps on a loaded canvas strop. The result was a bit shocking because it felt like a completely different razor and I had a wonderfully smooth shave. I’m not sure if the Bismarck steel is finnicky and I just lucked into a good edge this time around, or if this trailing edge strokes technique that I’ve beet trying out for a while is just so much more suited for this particular steel/geometry/whathaveyou. On other razors, I hadn’t really noted any dramatic improvement after my switch, so it’s a bit of a puzzle. A puzzle I’ll enjoy trying to solve, I think.

Lathering from the Stank Tank ® and having the Glorious Old Man Stank waft around the bathroom was like meeting a good friend again. TabOKtoberfest is going to be nice.

Nope. This will work on this razor reliably. It’s like finding a terrific razor that you didn’t realize you had! I’m very happy this worked out for you the same way it did for me.

So, I finally made it to the Lemmy instance. I kinda wonder why I haven’t managed to do so sooner, as it’s much easier to me than Mastodon with its strict 500 character limit. With that out of the way: Hi everyone, this is Dave aka DaveWave94. You might still know me from Reddit under the silly moniker of u/Teufelskraft.

Today’s shave was a quick 1-pass face shave before my late shift at the nursing home. I like the smell of CF GTB a lot and the soap base is, together with Stirling, Noble Otter and Moon’s Union a really fast to dial in good lather. Unfortunately, I really should change the Feather PG into something from KAI again. My face and Feather blades simply won’t get along. Quite a few weepers today. Well, tomorrow’s shave will surely be better!

Weepers with one pass? Was it against the grain?

No, just XTG. The skin on my face is very picky with blades - it seems like the guard on these Feathers doesn’t even exist for me. I also have the unfortunate habit of using too much pressure with light aluminum razors, especially when I’m in a hurry 🤔

Thank you very much! This sub/instance already feels very familiar to what I’m used to.
