    Black Watchday/Bright Nonworkingkday

    • Brush: Мужской Материк Orange Stabilised Burl with 28mm Oumo boar knot at 57mm loft
    • Razor: Filarmonica 14 Doble Temple (8/8", extra full hollow, carbon steel)
    • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Black Watch
    • Aftershave: Wholly Kaw Entropy Man
    • Fragrance: House of Mammoth/Noble Otter/Declaration Grooming Cerberus

Entropy Man is a bit too sweet for this combo to work as I hoped, and I still smell fore Entropy Man than Cerberus. I’ll need to think of a replacement third component in the Black Watch/Cerberus stone fruit theme. Maybe A&E Peach & Cognac?

Good day so far. It’s my first day of Winter break, and I’ve been to the neighbourhood barber for a haircut and a chat, and took my sweet time for a stone fruit themed shave. Now off to run some last errands before we’re ready to go to the mountains for the holidays. It’s snowing like crazy today and should keep snowing until the weekend, it’s going to be great ski conditions ⛷

      Enjoy your holiday!

How do you think Black Watch and Cerberus will pair without Entropy Man in the middle?

    Dec. 20, 2023

    • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
    • Razor: Karve CB SB D
    • Blade: Tatara
    • Lather: Macduffs - Santa’s Workshop - Soap
    • Post Shave: Macduffs - Santa’s Workshop - Aftershave

Good shave today. The blade was a bit harsh on the first run in this razor, not unexpected it’s a bit of a biter.

The scent is great and their non-alcohol splashes are growing on me. I cut my hand yesterday and the thought of applying alcohol splash made me a bit concerned.

Wednesday, December 20, 2023: MicroMatic Mitvokh

I received a new GEM Bullet Point or Flying Wing today, and I was impatient to try it. Compared to the MMOC or even the Star 1912, this is a razor with much less blade feel. It is also less top heavy than the MMOC, and feels quite differently in the hand. It is also by far the prettiest GEM razor I have.

I don’t get this impression of brutal efficiency I got used to with GEM razors. This is not necessarily bad, just unexpected - so you tell me that all DE razors are not like the R41?

Anyways, have a good night, and mazel tov for the server upgrade!

I agree with you about the Flying Wing. It has much less blade feel than the MMOC. As somebody who is used to straight razors, I need an adjustment period when I a razor like this. But, there’s a blade in there and it will cut :)

The Flying Wing sounds like it’s right up my alley.

I’m going to disagree with you and @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social about the efficiency.

I’m curious to hear what you think in 5 or so flights.

I’m my experience, this puppy has all the toast buttering efficiency one could ask for in a GEM, it’s just more opinionated about the range of angles it lets you use than the MMOC and Clog-Pruf.

I have, in fact, referred to the Flying Wing as “mild”. For me, that refers to blade feel and not shaving efficiency. Perhaps that’s improper use of the term on my part. I can get BBS shaves from razors like the Feather AS-D2 and Blutt with the 0.86 plate by paying attention to the “opinion” (nice choice of term there} those razors express about blade angle. I favor the cap side while shaving so a “mild” razor for me is one where I feel the cap restricting the angle. Not a big deal.

          That makes sense to me.

When you said “mild”, I thought more of something like the Henson: tiny blade gap, no exposure, no way to hurt yourself even if you’re drunk. I don’t know the AS-D2, but the Blutt with the 0.86 goes in that direction, yes.

I thought more of something like the Henson

I appreciate razor engineering that contributes to, enhances, and responds to good shaving technique. I think the goal at Henson is to provide a device that works the same way whether you have technique or not. There’s no joy in that IMHO.

    • Brush: Every Ready 400 w/30mm Motherload
    • Razor: MMOC Gen 1
    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (2)
    • Lather: Noble Otter - Hamami - Soap
    • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman - Aftershave

First go with a MMOC, on loan from @EldrormR@sub.wetshaving.social . This brush was also his handiwork, and has a glow-in-the-dark ferrule.

Nice shave. Pretty comfortable and close. I’ll use the Gen 2 next, followed by my Clog-Pruf, followed by maybe one or two more. Here I am doing my own tour of GEM razors, just like @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social.

That’s a pretty kickass brush, @EldrormR@sub.wetshaving.social does great work. Last year he fixed up an old travel brush for me that used to be my dad’s.

    • Prep: hot shower
    • Brush: Muhle 39K527 Synthetic Silvertip Shaving Brush, Faux Ivory, 19mm
    • Razor: Gillette Ball-end Tech K4 (1965)
    • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Hygge - Soap
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Hygge balm

Although it’s not my favorite scent, Hygge has grown on me a lot and I’ve taken to really enjoy using it on cold yet bright and sunny winter days like today. (I realize it’s not technically winter until tomorrow but for all intents and purposes we’re close enough.)

    • Brush: Elite Razor Neo-resinate 26mm Mother Lode

    • Razor: Wade & Butcher 7/8" Fine India Steel

    • Lather: Catie’s Bubbles - Midnight Dreary - Soap

    • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

    • Aftershave: Pasteur|Master Soap Creations - Bloom - Aftershave

    • Talc: Yardley Classic

2 passes. Bowl lather. Excellent shave.

I had planned to do a DE shave with Black Watch today but Midnight Dreary and that feeling of inevitability that comes from a wedge were calling to me. I’m glad I listened. Great shave today!
