September 17, 2023: Equine Greatest Hits Straightember

From the assembly of soaps I drenched my brush in awesomeness. I summoned the knife that does not spare. Joy filled my heart as I brought down the beard. Steady was my hand, I did not hesitate to cut. The thirsty blade could not taste my blood. Pride rose in the bosom of my consort: Truly, you have no equal! My face I drenched with the water that burns without mercy; the fire could not burn my skin.

Atomic Holiday is a happy sweet fruity fragrance. It reminds me of opening a can of fruit cocktail in my childhood

I think I haven’t smelled such a can in 30 years, but a sniff of atomic Holiday and bam! I’m back.

    • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
    • Razor: EldrormR Industries MM24
    • Blade: GEM Stainless
    • Lather: Barrister And Mann - Cheshire - Soap
    • Post Shave: Dr. Jons - Pans Pipe - Aftershave

Good shave today. I kind of forgot about SE shaving and applied a little bit to much pressure. Unfortunately I got way to close in one spot on my neck. I will survive but damn these razors require some attention. This is why I am still apprehensive in regards to straight razor shaving, mostly my lack of respect for care and attention while using certain razors I know to be a bit more aggressive. The brand new blade today was a contributing factor to the mistake.

This soap is almost gone and has been for quite sometime. I only bring it out on occasion and today seemed like as good of one as any. The Pans Pipe scent is odd and leaves me with a winter holiday vibe as it is kind of spicy and fruity.

If you practice light pressure and get the feel of erring by riding the more towards the cap with SEs and DEs, then you should be fine with straights.

It’s true that straights don’t forgive errors, and the learning curve is real, but it’s a really satisfying skill to learn. It’s a bit like taking off the training wheels: you’ll fall and it’ll hurt a bit, but it’s much more fun with them off 😉

    • Brush: Summer Break Soaps w/Maggard 28mm Silvertip Badger
    • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
    • Blade: My-Blades (1)
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Ozark Mountain - Soap
    • Post Shave: Chatillon Lux - Delor de Treget
    • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Damocles - EdP

A YouTube influencer sent me some of these blades to try. Thanks u/visceralwatch!

For my intial impression, I tried to ignore the fact that this is a marketing company who makes razor blades, what with the focus on being eco-friendly, approved by “barbers”, etc.

I’ve heard from one source that these are made in Germany, but the only source I could find to support that is the fact that the company is based in Berlin. It’s possible that they are made elsewhere, and I’m sure once they are brought to market we’ll have more information. The person who told me “Germany” does have the packaging, so if they’re marked “Made in Germany”, that’s good. I tend to like blades that are made there for whatever reason.

On to the shave - it was honestly quite nice. First impression is that these are good mild blades. Not all blades work for me in the Chiseled Face Legacy, but these did work quite well. I look forward to trying it in a few more razors and seeing how long they last me.

They’re currently only available via an indigogo campaign, and won’t ship until next month. The indigogo is $25 for 100 blades.

VisceralWatch mentioned these to me too. Based on the high marketing content and low technical content on indigogo I was certain they would be bad. I’m impressed that both you and he like them and look forward to comparisons with the traditional DE favorites.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I thoroughly enjoyed the feel of the razor today and had to stop myself from doing a third pass. It’s Sunday, so I had the time, but a third pass just wasn’t needed for closeness and 12 hours after the shave, I want to feel comfortable that growth is coming back for tomorrow.

Off to stream the race in Singapore. Enjoy your Sunday!
